The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Payson Lady Longhorns 70-30 in a Division III state tournament game played in Chinle on Saturday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 23-4 for the season and dropped Payson’s to 13-17. Winslow will play the Fountain Hills Lady Falcons at 4:30 p.m. today (Feb. 26) at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Fountain Hills defeated Many Farms 57-47 on Saturday to advance.
The Bulldogs held a 16-9 lead after the first quarter of play and built a commanding 40-18 advantage by the intermission. The game was as good as over as the Bulldogs had a 67-24 edge going into the fourth quarter, which was played with a running clock.
Winslow had four players in double figures led by Jayce Sangster with 17 points. Shandiin Armao scored 16; Tannon Tom, 13; and Halle Hayes, 12.
Cori Barnett led Payson with 8 points.
Tom hit four three-point goals and Sangster canned two super shots, while Payson did not have a trey. The Bulldogs had 20 two-point goals to just 11 for Payson. Winslow also canned 12 of 17 free throws to seven of 18 for Payson.
