Emogene Orean Penrod passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at home, where she was surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held March 1 at Norvel Owens Mortuary in Winslow. Interment followed at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
She was born July 7, 1932, to James Michael and Myrtle O. Trammell. Myrtle’s sister Bobbie (McFarland) Harrah came to live with Myrtle after their mother passed away, and Bobbie and Emogene were raised together.
Emogene lived her entire life in Winslow, where she graduated in 1951. She held three jobs, first as an usher at the Rialto, then at the Santa Fe Railway for 20 years and later as a waitress at the Adobe Inn.
She married her singing cowboy, Charles “Chuck” Penrod on Feb. 5, 1953. After traveling the cowboy circuit for two years, Chuck and Genie had two children, Charles Michael and Darla Jean Penrod. Emogene lived in the home of Darla during her later years, and took great interest in the lives of all of her grandchildren.
Her quick wit and tell it like it is advice will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, her father, an infant brother and her Aunt Bobbie Harrah.
Survivors include her two children, Charles “Mike” Penrod (Lavetta) and Darla Buckels (Rod); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.Penrod, Emogene
