Holbrook’s softball team opened the season in fine form last Wednesday, picking up a 13-3 road win at St. Johns.
The Lady Roadrunners jumped on top quickly, scoring eight first inning runs. St. Johns tried to mount a challenge, with two in the second but that was as close as the Lady Redskins would get to winning their home opener. Holbrook matched those runs with two in the fourth, then closed the deal with three fifth inning runs, ending the game under the 10-run rule.
Isabelle Jacques went three for three at the plate including two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and scored twice. Tess Baldonado was three for four with a home run, had four RBIs and scored three times. Amber Shelendewa went two for two with a double, an RBI and scored once. Brandi Cline was two for three with an RBI, hit two doubles and scored twice. Mariah Cummings went one for one with a triple, had two RBIs and scored once. Alizia Foster went one for four with an RBI and scored once. Jadiana Perez went one for one with a triple and scored once. Demo Perkins went one for four with an RBI and scored once. Kylah Spangler went one for two with an RBI and scored once. Alex Jeffers-Sample was one for one.
Baldonado earned the win in the circle, pitching all five innings. She allowed three runs, only one earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and walked seven.
After hosting Show Low on Tuesday, the Roadrunners will welcome Joseph City today (March 5). This weekend they will be in the Valley competing in the Krystin Diehl Softball Tournament in Maricopa. On Tuesday, March 11, they travel to Winslow for a regular season matchup.
