A pay raise for teachers, administrators and some support staff was approved by the Holbrook Unified School District Governing Board during a meeting held Tuesday evening in Indian Wells.
A 1.5 percent salary increase was approved for all certified teachers, support staff supervisors and certified administrators, while a flat $500 per year increase was approved for all certified teachers and administrators.
Business Manager Garry McDowell noted that the recommendation for the increase was made in cooperation with the Holbrook Education Association. The increases will be effective for the upcoming 2014-15 school year.
In addition to approving the salary increases, the board approved extending contracts to returning teachers and administrators for the upcoming school year, with the exception of the contract for Superintendent Robbie Koerperich. At Koerperich’s request, the board withheld approving the contract in order to conduct negotiations.
The board approved offering a contract to Tim Newton-Pender to serve as principal of Holbrook Junior High School for the 2014-15 school year.
Board members also approved job descriptions for the business manager and technology director in order to post the openings following the retirement of long-time district employees McDowell and Technology Director Ann Gardner. In addition, the board approved offering Gardner a 100-day contract in order to “help transition and acclimate the new technology director to our district technology system.”
In other action March 11, the board:
* Approved job descriptions and salary schedules for computer technician I and II, energy management coordinator and school safety coordinator positions.
* Approved an additional special education position.
* Approved out of state travel for Gardner and Connie Gover to attend the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development conference in Los Angeles, Calif.
* Approved out of state travel for Jerri McKinnon, Connie McPherson, Lance Phaturos and Gover to attend teacher recruitment fairs in Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and Colorado.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at the district office in Holbrook.
