The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners 13-3 in a softball game played March 5 at Winslow, then followed that up with a 14-5 road win over the Page Lady Sand Devils two days later. The wins brought Winslow’s streak to seven without a loss.
Taylor Baca got the win over Holbrook, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits and two walks. She fanned five in the game, which was shortened to five innings under the 10-run mercy rule.
The Roadrunners scored twice in the top of the first inning on singles by Alizia Foster, Demo Perkins and Tess Baldonado. Winslow cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning on singles by Alyssa Smith and Liz Lozano. The Bulldogs went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the third on a home run by Halle Hayes, a walk, and singles by Jaleisa Hayes, Richelyn Villanueva and Erica Jodie.
A nine-run fourth inning put the Bulldogs comfortably ahead 13-2. In that fateful inning there were three Holbrook errors, a walk, a home run by Megan Lymer, a triple by Halle Hayes, a double by Smith, and singles by Lozano and Hailee Branson. Holbrook scored once in the top of the fifth on a single by Brandi Cline and a Winslow error, but it was not enough to avoid having the game ended on the mercy rule.
Smith was two for two for the Bulldogs. Halle Hayes and Lozano were each two for three. Villanueva, Branson and Jodie were each one for three. Lymer and Jaleisa Hayes were each one for four. Halle Hayes had a home run and a triple. Lymer had a home run. Smith had a double.
Villanueva got the win over Page, working four innings and giving up three runs, two of which were earned, on just two hits and a walk. Baca worked three innings in relief and gave up two runs on three hits.
Page scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits and a Winslow error. The Bulldogs scored four times in the top of the third inning on singles by Hailee Branson, Lymer and Villanueva, a walk and two Page errors. The lead grew to 5-3 in the fourth inning on a single by Branson and a hit batsman. In the fifth inning Winslow increased the lead to 6-3 on singles by Smith, Katonya Begay and Branson.
The Bulldogs built a commanding 11-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning on singles by Lymer, Villanueva, Baca, Nikki Foy and Jodie, and a double by Branson. Page cut the lead to 13-5 in the bottom of the sixth on two hits. Winslow completed the scoring in the top of the seventh inning with three runs on a home run by Villanueva, a double by Baca, and singles by Smith and Begay.
Branson led the Bulldogs at the plate with a four for four day, including a double. Baca was four for five with two doubles. Villanueva was three for five with a home run. Smith was two for four. Lymer and Begay were each two for five. Foy and Jodie were both one for three.
Winslow was slated to host the Hopi Lady Burins on Tuesday and the Camp Verde Lady Cowboys this afternoon (March 19).
