Photo by Naomi Hatch Team ropers Shawn Palmer of Taylor and Gary Kiehne of Springerville won first place at the Dynamite Arena Rodeo held Feb. 22 in Cave Creek, one of the most difficult world series qualifiers in the state with contestants coming from as far as Canada, Texas and California. They won with a time of 10.50, only 38/100 of a second faster than second place winners and brought home $21,000. This win qualified Palmer to compete in the National Finals Rodeo scheduled in December in Las Vegas, Nev. Palmer shows off the buckle he won as his daughter Kaycie holds his horse Cracker Jack’s reins. Palmer also competed at Buckeye, another world series qualifier. He brought home money, but didn’t do as well as he did in Cave Creek.
