“I would like to see a policy put in place, so it’s consistent all the time,” said Steve Foster, a citizen who attended the March 12 Taylor Town Council meeting and expressed concern about how volunteers are appointed to serve on town committees.
“The way it is now, there is no policy; it’s just whoever’s in charge sees fit to do it,” he said. “It’s legal, but it sure left a lot of questions in my mind, as well as a lot of other people.
Foster suggested the council put out official notice and give people two weeks to a month to volunteer, then move forward from there.
“If there’s a question of continuity, stagger the terms (they serve on the committee,” he advised the council. “Just make sure everybody feels like they can participate. I personally believe it will help, the townspeople wouldn’t be offended if they’re left out.”
“I think that’s a valid point and I think the town could come up with a policy,” said Mayor Fay Hatch, who then asked town staff members to look into the matter.
