Penelope “Penny” Jackson, 68, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014, surrounded by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (March 21) at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 600 W. Henderson St. in Winslow. Inurnment will follow at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
Penny was born in McNary, but, with the exception of a few years living in Holbrook, spent most of her life in Winslow.
She owned her own business, Penny Ante’s for several years. After closing her store she went to work for the Arizona State Prison in Winslow.
Penny held several state and local offices in the Order of the Eastern Star, including worthy matron of the Winslow and Holbrook chapters.
Survivors include her sons, Jot (Caryn) of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Jed (Tanya) of Bend, Ore.; one granddaughter, Caitlyn of Bend; her brother William (Eda Mae) Hatch of Virginia, and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Richards; and nephews Scott (Kelli) Richards of Flagstaff and Reese (Jana) Richards of Winslow, and niece J.J. Richards of Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce (1984); an infant son, Rodger; her parents, William and Mary Lee Hatch; and her in-laws, Fred and Mary Mae Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Eastern Star Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
