The Winslow Lady Bulldogs won the Gracie Haught Invitational Tournament held in Payson last weekend with five wins on the field and one by forfeit in the championship game when two Willow Canyon players ran together and were injured severely enough that both were taken to the hospital. Winslow was leading 5-4 at the time of the collision.
The Bulldogs won three games on Friday, including an 11-1 victory over the Round Valley Lady Elks, an 8-5 victory over the Camp Verde Lady Cowboys and a 16-0 win over the Sunnyslope Lady Vikings.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs topped the Benson Lady Bobcats 13-2. That was followed by a 9-2 win over the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets and a forfeit win over the Willow Canyon Lady Wildcats. The wins improved Winslow’s record to a perfect 13-0 for the season.
In the 9-2 win over Blue Ridge, Taylor Baca got the win, giving up two runs on three hits. At the plate, Halle Hayes was 2 for 2 with a triple. Baca, Alyssa Smith, Rene Bollin and Richelyn Villanueva were all 2 for 3, with Baca, Bollin and Villanueva having doubles. Megan Lymer was 1 for 3.
Villanueva got the win in the 13-2 win over Benson in Saturday’s first game.
Liz Lozano was 3 for 3 at the plate. Jaleisa Hayes and Alyssa Smith 2 for 3. Halle Hayes and Villanueva were 2 for 4, with Hayes having a double and a triple. Baca, Hailee Branson and Bollin were all 1 for 3. Lymer was 1 for 4.
In the 11-1 win over Round Valley on Friday, Halle Hayes got the victory, working three scoreless innings, and giving up no hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Villanueva gave up a run on two hits in relief.
Branson and Sierra Wilcox were 3 for 3 at the plate. Villanueva was 1 for 2 with a home run. Baca, Smith, Lymer, Halle Hayes and Jaleisa Hayes were all 1 for 3, with Lymer having a triple.
In the 8-5 win over Camp Verde, Baca got the win, giving up no hits or runs in three innings. Villanueva gave up five runs, four of which were earned, on four hits.
At the plate, Halle Hayes was 2 for 3 with a triple. Branson, Bollin and Jaleisa Hayes were all 1 for 2, with Branson and Bollin having doubles. Baca, Smith and Villanueva were 1 for 3, with Villanueva having a double.
In the 16-0 win over Sunnyslope on Friday, Halle Hayes got the win with relief from Taylor Baca. Sunnyslope had only two hits.
Jaleisa Hayes was 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. Lozano was 1 for 1 with a double. Lymer was 2 for 3 with a double. Bollin was 1 for 2. Halle Hayes and Smith were each 1 for 3, with Hayes having a triple.
Prior to the tournament, the Bulldogs defeated the Camp Verde Cowgirls 10-0 at Winslow last Wednesday.
Baca went the distance for the win in a game shortened to five innings under the 10-run mercy rule. She allowed just three hits in the shutout while fanning six Cowgirls.
Winslow scored four runs in the first inning, and three each in the second and fourth innings. Villanueva, Smith and Lymer were all 2 for 2 at the plate, with Lymer having a double. Erica Jodie and Baca were both 2 for 3, with Baca having a home run and Jodie a double. Branson was 1 for 2. Halle Hayes and Jaleisa Hayes were each 1 for 3.
