The Snowflake Lobos found themselves on both sides of shutout games last week. Wednesday’s game at Payson resulted in a 10-0 blanking by the Longhorns, while Friday’s home game against Round Valley was a 9-0 outcome in favor of the Lobos.
The Payson squad started quickly on its home turf, scoring four runs in the first to put the Lobos on their heels. Three more Longhorn runs in the second pretty much put the game away.
Snowflake really struggled at the dish coming up with only three hits in the game. Matt Lamb went 1 for 2 and Tanner Crosby was 2 for 2 with a stolen base.
Dallin Fusselman worked 21/3 innings on the mound, facing 11 batters. He gave up two runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout. Tyler Hanson pitched 12/3 innings, facing 14 batters. He allowed seven runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Jarom Beecroft faced four batters, giving up one run on two hits with a walk.
Hosting Round Valley on Friday the Lobos started slowly, but consistently, scoring single runs in each of the first three innings. In the fourth they opened things up with four runs, then finished off the Elks with two more in the fifth en route to a 9-0 shutout win.
Snowflake still struggled a little at the plate, coming up with only five hits. Ty Reidhead went 1 for 2 with three RBIs. Hanson was 1 for 3. Fusselmen went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Hunter Bauer was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Beecroft, Garret Jackson, Lamb and Crosby combined on the hill to give up only seven hits with nine strikeouts in the win.
With the split the Lobos are 9-2 heading into Saturday’s home game with Blue Ridge. On Tuesday, April 1, they will play at Show Low, and on Thursday, April 3, they will begin play in the Estrella Foothills Tournament.
