The Winslow High School speech and debate team ended the 2013-14 competitive speech season by bringing home a runner-up title in Duet Acting at the Arizona Interscholastic Association State Speech Tournament held March 14 and 15 at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix. Preston Greenwood and Luke McCauley earned the honor with a comic scene based on the old Abbott and Costello Who’s on First routine.
Three Winslow competitors reached the semifinal round of the tournament. Nathaniel Renney was just a single speaker point away from the finals round in poetry. Other semifinalists were Lexi Sievers in drama and Brittany Fischer in expository speaking.
Students competing in the preliminary rounds were Cheyenne Armijo, Kenzie Blackgoaot, Clinton Contreras, Seth Jennings, Daniel Lane, Michael Lane, David Messer, Aura Renney, Jude Tombo and Shawn White.
The team is coached by Sarah Smithson and Marianne Richardson. Volunteer judges include RC Brown, Zack Young, Ashley McLaws, Laurel Lane and Chris Card.
