The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Coconino Panthers 10-2 last Friday in Flagstaff and the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets 16-4 on Tuesday at home. The wins left the Bulldogs with a 10-3 record for the season.
Kuster Kinlicheenie went the distance for the win over Coconino, giving up two runs on nine hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a double by Henry Montiel and a home run by Colton Corum. The Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first on a walk and singles by Brant Chapin and Bryan Chapin, and tied it in the third inning on a home run by Brant Chapin.
The Bulldogs went ahead 4-2 in the top of the fourth on singles by Corum and Jon Bollin, a walk and a Panther error. A four-run fifth put the Bulldogs up comfortably 8-2 on singles by Caleb Cirre, Vincenzio Sells, Montiel and Corum, two walks and an error. The final two runs scored in the top of the sixth on a walk, and singles by Matt Cirre, Bollin and Adrian Montoya.
Corum was 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run. Bollin was 2 for 3. Montiel was 3 for 5 with a double and a triple. Caleb Cirre was 1 for 3. Sells, Matt Cirre and Montoya were all 1 for 4.
Matthew Ramos got the win over Blue Ridge. He worked the full five innings of the game, which was shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule. He allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks while fanning three.
Winslow scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and eight in the fourth for a 16-0 lead. Blue Ridge scored four in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough to keep the game from ending early.
Montoya was 3 for 3 with a home run to lead the Bulldogs at the plate. Montiel was 3 for 4. Caleb Cirre was 2 for 3. Bollin, Corum and Sells were 2 for 4, with Sells having a double and Corum a home run. Rey Chavez-Velez and C.J. Chacon were 1 for 3.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play the Mingus Marauders on Tuesday in Cottonwood. They will play the Verrado Vipers in Goodyear on Thursday, April 3, and the Poston Butte Broncos and Chino Valley Cougars on Friday and Saturday in the Estrella Foothills Invitational Tournament.
