The Winslow Bulldogs won two games and lost three at the Estrella Foothills Wolves Classic over the weekend. The results left the Bulldogs with a 12-7 record for the season.
The Verrado Vipers defeated the Bulldogs 11-3 in their opening game on Thursday.
On Friday the Bulldogs lost again to the Poston Butte Broncos, 7-6, but got their first tournament win over the Chino Valley Cougars, 8-7.
On Saturday they lost a tough 13-12 decision to the Youngker Roughriders and posted an 18-6 victory over the Wickenburg Wranglers.
In the 11-3 loss to Verrado, Kuster Kinlecheenie took the loss, giving up five runs, none earned, on just three hits and three walks in four innings. Caleb Cirre gave up six unearned runs on five hits in two innings. The Bulldogs were victimized by six costly errors that let the Vipers score 11 unearned runs.
Winslow was led at the plate by Matt Cirre, who was 2 for 3 with a double. Henry Montiel was 2 for 4. Colton Corum was 1 for 2. Adrian Montoya and Jon Bollin were each 1 for 3, with Montoya having a double.
In the 7-6 loss to Poston Butte, the Bulldogs dropped the eight-inning contest with Matt Cirre taking the loss in relief of Matt Ramos.
Ramos worked 42/3 innings, and gave up four runs on four hits and six walks. Matt Cirre worked 21/3 innings and gave up three runs, only one earned, on three hits and a walk.
Corum and Rey Chavez-Velez led the Bulldogs at the plate with 2 for 3. Montiel was 2 for 4. Matt Cirre was 1 for 2. Caleb Cirre, Bollin and Vincenzio Sells were all 1 for 4.
The 8-7 win over Chino Valley was a 13-inning marathon won by the Bulldogs, who scored two runs in the bottom of the 13th on a double by Montoya, a walk, an error, and singles by C.J. Chacon and Montiel.
Corum got the win in relief of Bollin. Bollin worked five innings and gave up six runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits and four walks. Corum gave up just one run on three hits in eight innings.
Corum was 3 for 6 at bats with a triple. Chacon was 2 for 5. Matt Cirre and Sells were 2 for 6. Montoya was 2 for 7 with a double and a triple. Caleb Cirre and Bollin were each 1 for 5. Chavez-Velez was 1 for 7. Montiel was 1 for 8.
In the 13-12 loss to Younker, Matt Cirre took the loss in relief of Chance Dick. Dick went 42/3 innings and gave up six runs, none of which were earned, on six hits and six walks. Matt Cirre gave up six runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits and two walks in an inning and a third. Again, errors proved costly for the Bulldogs.
Ramos was 1 for 1 at the plate for the Bulldogs. Montoya was 2 for 4. Corum was 2 for 5. Bollin and Chacon were each 1 for 3. Caleb Cirre was 1 for 4.
In the final 18-6 win over Wickenburg, Caleb Cirre got the victory working just two innings and giving up no runs on just three hits. Chacon gave up six runs, four of which were earned, on six hits and two walks in two innings. Sells worked the final inning and allowed just two walks.
Montoya was 3 for 3 at the plate with a triple. Devon Flanagan and Brandon Sedillo were each 1 for 1. Montiel was 3 for 5 with two doubles. Chavez-Velez was 2 for 4. Kinlecheenie, Bollin and Ramos were all 1 for 2, with Kinlecheenie having a double.
