Taking both games of a doubleheader with Alchesay coupled with wins over Globe and Safford last week left the Lady Lobos ranked inside the top five overall in the power point rankings with only two weeks left in the regular season.
Snowflake defeated the Lady Falcons 18-0 in the first game and 16-1 in the second on Tuesday afternoon. Five first inning runs set the tone in game one as the Lobos cruised to the big win.
At the plate several players hit the ball well. Tyler Flake went 1 for 2 with a triple. Eilee Penrod was 1 for 2. Tycee Coplan went 2 for 3. Ashlyn Butler went 1 for 3. Tori Flake was 2 for 3 with a double. Tandis Yellowhair went 1 for 3 with a double.
Marisa Godfrey pitched four innings of no hit ball, striking out seven Falcon batters while walking two.
Game two was similar as Snowflake scored four in the first and three in the second to build a commanding lead.
Tori Flake pitched all five innings, facing 19 batters. She gave up one earned run on two hits with 12 strikeouts and walked only one.
At the plate, Godfrey went 2 for 4. Tyler Flake went 3 for 3 with three doubles. Penrod was 1 for 3. Coplan went 4 for 5. Debbie Tai Neff was 3 for 4. Butler went 3 for 5 with a home run. Kimber Solomon was 2 for 4. Tandis Yellowhair went 2 for 4 with a home run.
Wednesday’s game at Globe was another five-inning outing for the Lobos as they won 21-0 over the Lady Tigers.
Kelsie Stratton gave up just two hits in four innings on the mound with six strikeouts and walked five of the 19 batters she faced.
Godfrey and Yellowhair both hit home runs. Coplan had a triple and Tyler Flake had two doubles. Bulter and Tori Flake also had doubles.
Playing their fourth game in three days may have caused the Lobos to start slowly against Safford, especially after a long bus ride. They trailed 1-0 through two innings, but in the top of the third their bats came to life and they scored seven runs. They tacked on four more in the fourth and three in the fifth to win the game in five innings by a final of 14-3.
Godfrey went 1 for 4 with a triple. Tyler Flake was 2 for 3 with a double. Coplan went 2 for 3 with a double. Tai-Neff went 1 for 3. Butler was 2 for 3 with a triple and a double. Stratton went 2 for 3 with a double.
Stratton earned the win in the circle, facing 21 batters in five innings of work. She gave up three runs, only two earned, on one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks.
After playing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, the Lobos will host Holbrook on Thursday. Next week they conclude the regular season with crucial games against Show Low on Tuesday and Winslow on Wednesday. Both games will be at home.
