Lenard James Chapple, 69, of Snowflake passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2014, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (May 9) at Owens Livingston Mortuary-Heritage Chapel, located at 84 E. 19th South in Snowflake. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 175 W. Ninth South.
He was born in Westwood, Calif., to Harry and Thelma Chapple on Nov. 23, 1944, the youngest of three sons.
Lenard grew up in Northern California. He moved to Southern California with his mother for his senior year of high school, graduating from Westminster High School in 1963. He attended Orange Coast College before serving a full-time mission from 1965 to 1967 for the LDS church in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he met Marilyn McCleve of Show Low. They were married in the Mesa Temple on Nov. 26, 1968. Several months later, they moved to Huntington Beach, Calif., and lived there for six years, where their first four children were born. Since they were both raised in small towns, they wanted to raise their children in a small town. They moved to Snowflake in 1975 and have lived there ever since. Four more children joined their family, for a total of eight (four boys and four girls).
Throughout his life, Lenard loved serving in the church. His favorite callings were Scout leader, home teacher and his most recent calling of High Priest group leader. He also served several stake missions. One of his passions was helping others in any way he could. If someone needed help fixing something around the house, he would fix it. He loved spending time with his family, reading and doing projects around the house.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn; his children, Melanie Egbert (Lon) of Wendell, Idaho, Scott Chapple (Heather) of West Jordan, Utah, Kevin Chapple (Merica) of South Jordan, Utah, Stephanie Johnson (Jared) of Peoria, Ryan Chapple (Heather) of Boise, Idaho, and Ashley Peart (Jeremy) of West Jordan; his daughter-in-law Shirley Turley (Darren) Gilbert; and 32 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Thelma Burgess; and two siblings, Ben and Leroy Chapple.
He was preceded in death by two of his children, James (Shirley) and Tiffany.
