Four area teams are still alive in the Division III state baseball and softball tournaments.
Winslow’s baseball team earned a first round bye as the overall No. 7 seed, and will face 10th ranked Yuma Catholic at 4 o’clock this afternoon (May 9). With a win the Bulldogs would advance to the quarterfinal round for a matchup with either No. 15 Valley Christian or No. 2 Show Low. That game would be played at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.
The Lady Bulldogs earned the overall No. 2 seed and will face 15th seeded Nogales at 8 o’clock tonight. With a win they would advance to Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. matchup against either No. 23 Bourgade Catholic or No. 7 Empire.
Snowflake High School also has both teams still competing in the post-season. The baseball team won its first round game handily and as the No. 12 seed, the Lobos will face fifth seeded Palo Verde Magnet from Tucson at 4 p.m. today. With a win they would see either No. 13 Kingman Academy or No. 4 Page at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The Lady Lobos earned a first round bye as the fourth overall seed and will face Thatcher at 6 o’clock tonight. With a win they would move on to face either No. 21 Coolidge or familiar foe No. 5 Blue Ridge at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The state baseball games are played at the Surprise Baseball Complex. The state softball games are played at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix. The four teams per tournament surviving this weekend will compete in the final four segment of the tourneys next weekend.
