Markette Amelia Fritz, 79, of Winslow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at First United Methodist Church in Winslow, preceded by visitation at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Desert View Cemetery in Winslow.
She was born Nov. 16, 1934, to Mark and Velma Kirby.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Alvin; three sons, Kevin (Betty), Bill (Nora) and Eddie (Diane); four grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Andrew and Katie; two brothers, Bob (Arlene) and Jim (Marlene); and two nieces, Lisa and Laura (and families). Markette loved and was so very proud of her family.
Markette was a graduate of Morenci High School, nursing school at Good Samaritan Hospital, and earned a BSN from Arizona State University.
She worked as a registered nurse in Winslow, as a Forest Service lookout and as a homemaker.
She was a member of P.E.O., Women’s Club, and United Methodist Women.
Markette loved card games, being an avid bridge player, and playing a mean game of spite and malice with her grandkids.
After over 50 years in Winslow, she lived the past year happily at the Peaks in Flagstaff with Alvin.
