Snowflake’s bid for a state title in softball came to a close in the semifinal round last Friday night in Phoenix. Facing top seeded Payson, No. 4 Snowflake came up short, falling 6-2 in the Lady Lobos’ final game of the season.
Payson started quickly, hitting a home run in the Lady Longhorns’ first at bat. The Lobos had one strong inning where two singles were followed by a two-RBI double, but those marked the only two runs of the game for Snowflake.
Payson’s Ari Paulson not only set the stage by hitting the lead off home run, she also controlled the game in the circle, allowing only six hits to the Lobos while striking out nine.
Despite the semifinal loss, the Lobos still put together a great season, going 25-11 overall.
Payson went on to lose to second seeded Winslow in the state championship game on Saturday night by a final of 5-3.
