By Naomi Hatch Five candidates will seek election to the Snowflake Town Council later this year. Jason Whiting, who is serving as vice mayor, is the only candidate for the office of mayor. Kelly Willis will not seek re-election. Candidates vying for two council seats are Cory Johnson, Terril Kay, Byron Lewis and Daniel Erwin Prestwich. The seats are currently held by Beverlee Kay, who chose not to run again, and Whiting. The deadline for candidates to submit packets was May 28. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Snowflake Social Hall, 78 W. Center, and the general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4. In order to qualify to vote, you must be registered by Monday, July 28, at the Navajo County Complex in Holbrook. The Snowflake Council previously voted to hold the election six months prior to the regular election date to put the town in compliance with a new law requiring that town elections be held in conjunction with state and federal elections. The Taylor Town Council voted to hold the town council election 18 months after the regular election date to put the town in compliance with the new law, so the next election will be held in 2016.
