Winslow Councilman Harold Soehner was elected vice mayor by a 6-0 vote during a special meeting held Tuesday. Soehner was sworn in after the last council meeting, but was absent from this one. Mayor Robin Boyd, and Councilmen Curtis Hardy and Thomas Chacon took their oaths of office Tuesday from City Clerk Susie Wetzel.
The council also voted to designate property south and west of Eagle Pavilion on Second Street as the site for a dog park. That park may be partially funded by a grant for which the city is competing in online voting. One stipulation is that there must be a site designated for the park, which should also be on a major street in the city. The site selected meets those criteria.
Other advantages cited by City Manager Stephen Pauken and others were that there would be adequate parking at the adjacent Chamber of Commerce, and that there is room for a children’s park and expansion in the area.
