The Snowflake Town Council unanimously approved a tentative budget of $9,457,973 for fiscal year 2014-15 last week, a decrease of $645,147 from this year’s budget.
Finance Director Brian Richards noted that minor changes were made to the tentative budget to reflect what was discussed in a May 13 work session.
The decrease in the budget of $645,147, Richards said, “is mainly due to the Southern Solution project,” as they budgeted less in this budget than the previous year. “We hope to complete it this fiscal year.”
Approval of the tentative budget means that expenditures cannot be increased without declaring an emergency, but Richards noted that line items within the budget can be changed.
Richards will prepare and publish the required budget forms in the newspaper for two consecutive weeks and a public hearing will be held on July 8, when the final budget will be presented to the council for approval.
