A group of volunteers is spearheading this year’s 4th of July Freedom Festival in Winslow. There will be several events taking place on the holiday, including a 5K color run starting 7:30 a.m. Participants are asked to arrive at First Street and Kinlsey Avenue beginning at 7 a.m. for a group photo on the Route 66 shield. The race will end at Vargas Field.
The entry fee is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under, with the price to include a T-shirt. To register, visit www.active.com.
Registration was also scheduled on June 24 at Hibbett Sports, located at 1543 North Park Drive. All proceeds will go to support the annual Freedom Festival event.
The color run will be followed by a small festival that will include carnival games, a dunk tank, bounce houses, a water play area and a barbecue.
The group is also looking for sponsors to provide monetary donations, prizes and supplies, such as watermelons and pies for eating contests, potato sacks for races, hula hoops and water balloons.
