Hugh K. Tirrell, author of I Am Arizona, will be doing a signing of the book from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Painted Desert Visitor Center at Petrified Forest National Park, located just off Interstate 40 at exit 311. The park’s first ever book signing will be hosted by the Petrified Forest Museum Association.
I Am Arizona is the first book in a series entitled I Am America. There will ultimately be one book for each state in the nation.
Why did Tirrell start with I Am Arizona? Simple. He moved to Scottsdale 12 years ago, and has been struck by Arizona’s beauty and cultural history. “The state is so uniquely visual it was easy to create a book with all stunning pictures,” he explained.
Prior to starting I Am America Books, Tirrell was in the motivational film/DVD business for 35 years. He is the author, producer and director of more than 60 half-hour films.
During his career, he traveled to 49 of the states in the U.S. The scenery and the people in each state were different, but the people had one thing in common: they knew very little about their own home state, let alone other states in our country.
Tirrell decided that he would create a series of visual, fun books about each state in our nation. They would be different. They would use photos throughout. The text would be written to be “performed” by many actors portraying the various animals, birds, cacti, telling listeners about themselves. They would be cherished by all ages, from youth through maturity.
Since he does not have children, Tirrell wants the I Am America series to be his legacy to his country.
