A new healthcare facility quietly opened in Holbrook July 1, and will be available for public use soon.
The High Desert Healthcare office is located at the Navajo County complex on Highway 77, in the former public works building. It is now serving only county employees and their families, but will soon be open to the public.
Navajo County Human Resources Director Kim Eavenson explained that the initial plan was for the clinic to be open for 90 days to county employees and their families, then expand to include community members. In the interest of keeping the doctors and other staff members at the clinic well supplied with patients, the clinic may open sooner to the general public. An opening date has not yet been set. Eavenson noted that the county is working closely with Summit Healthcare, which is responsible for staffing the facility, to determine an opening date for the public.
The general practice clinic will have five doctors and a physician’s assistant to staff the clinic on a regular basis. A different doctor will be at the clinic each day, but each doctor will provide services on a regular schedule. For example, the same doctor will be at the clinic every Monday so patients who want to see that doctor can plan their visits for a Monday.
Planned clinic hours are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays.
The clinic is the result of a partnership between Navajo County and Summit Healthcare. In an effort to reduce healthcare costs, the county entered into an agreement with Summit for the clinic to serve county employees. The county provided the building and completed the necessary remodeling work, while Summit provided equipment and staffing.
Included in the 5,000 square feet are several exam rooms, a procedure room and a laboratory, as well as office space for doctors and nurses. A new fitness facility for Navajo County employees is also planned in an adjoining space that currently houses old files for the public works department.
The healthcare facility is located just south of the main county complex, to the east of the racquetball courts. It can be accessed by turning east off of Highway 77, and then turning south on the first road located in the complex. A series of signs have been put in place to direct traffic to the facility. The space was made available for a healthcare office due to construction of a new public works complex on the west side of Highway 77.
