A benefit for young Joseph City resident Dallas Taylor will be held on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2.
Dallas is the 12-year-old daughter of Terry and Lorraine Taylor. She suffered a stroke in May due to an arterial ventricular malformation, resulting in four brain surgeries. Dallas is home and doing well, but will need continued therapy for a full recovery. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the family to pay for medical expenses associated will her illness.
Beginning on Friday, events for the benefit will include a Zumbathon from 5 to 7 p.m. for $10 per person or $5 for participants under 12, and Karaoke from 7 to 9 p.m. with a $5 cover charge. Both events will be held at the old elementary school gym, located at 8176 Westover Ave.
On Saturday, a 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held at 7 a.m. beginning at the high school parking lot with a $5 entry fee. A pulled pork barbecue dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the old elementary school gym for $8 per plate, or $6 for kids 10 and under. A silent auction will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the old gym, followed by a family dance from 7 to 11 p.m. for $5 per person or $25 per family.
