The 2015 Miss Navajo County Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Show Low High School auditorium. Admission is $5 per person.
Candidates for Miss Navajo County include Katherine “Katie” Johnson, Casey Pryor, Shannon Mosier, Leah Blake and Isabella Duran. The 2014 title is held by Kylie Koerperich.
Katherine “Katie” Johnson
Katie is the daughter of Peter Johnson and Anne Johnson, and has one brother, David.
Her talent is singing, and her platform will be Type One To Type None: Finding A Cure For Type 1 Diabetes.
She would like to be a kindergarten teacher or special education teacher.
Katie’s hobbies are singing, drawing, reading and crafting, and she participated in marching band.
She likes making lists. She plays multiple instruments and wants to play more, and she also likes exploring about where she lives.
Casey is the daughter of Cliff Pryor and Laurie Pryor. She has two brothers, Jake and Justin.
Her talent is dance, and her platform will be Operation Pixie Power: Assistance For Senior Citizens.
She hopes one day to open her own practice to counsel grief stricken medical/first responder personnel.
Her hobbies include crafting, carpentry and refurbishing furniture.
She plays volleyball and softball, and enjoys climbing and hiking.
Casey took three years of construction in high school and competed at SKILLS USA her senior year. She was Defensive Player of the Year for volleyball during her senior year. She also participated in a dance company for three years.
She is a first generation college student.
Shannon is the daughter of Darrel Mosier and Kyra Mosier. She has two siblings, Lance and Max.
Her talents are singing and playing the piano, and her platform will be Colon Cancer Awareness: Be A Blue Star.
Her goal is to attend Eastern Arizona College and major in music.
Her hobbies include singing, playing piano, volleyball and longboarding. Her sport is volleyball.
Shannon is a self-taught musician. She has been contacted to go on a talk show on radio about her singing, and she writes her own songs.
Leah is the daughter of Eli Blake and Tressa Blake. She has two sisters, Valorie and Maranda.
Her talent is Mexican folklorical dancing, and her platform will be Be A Friend, Not A Bully.
Her career goal is to become a communications director in Washington, D.C.
Her hobbies are Mexican folklorical dancing, flute, harp, attending political conferences and cooking.
Her sports are soccer and dancing.
Leah is the oldest of twins. She served as a congressional intern in Washington, D.C., during the summer of 2013. She likes to work on political campaigns.
Isabella is the daughter of Larry Duran and Jodi Duran. She has one brother, Dillan.
Her talent is modern dance, and her platform will beCyber Bullying.
Her career goal is to be a kindergarten teacher.
Isabella loves riding her bike, quad, being outdoors and doing crafty things. She has been a member of the Holbrook Bullets swim Team for five years. She cheered, played baseball, volleyball and soccer, ran track and participated in Student Council as secretary while in high school. She was the runner-up for lifting the heaviest squat max for the girls.
Miss Navajo County’s Outstanding Teen 2015 Contestants include Shyann Flake, Sophie Owen, Kinlea Hancock, Emily Eavenson, McKenna Westover and Victoria White. The 2014 title is held by Haylee Farr.
Shyann is the daughter of Karsten Flake and Michele Pulsipher. Her siblings are Shania, Forester, Saige and Chansler.
Her talent is dance-clogging, and her platform will be Get Active: Encouraging Physical Activity In Children And Teens.
Her goal is to become a successful and well respected lawyer.
Her hobbies include singing, dancing, horseback riding and reading.
Her sports are cheer, volleyball, track, softball and basketball.
Psych is Shyann’s favorite TV show and she quotes it all the time. She doesn’t like soda, has read hundreds of books and can say the alphabet backwards.
Sophie is the daughter of James A. Owen and Cindy Owen. She has a brother, Nathaniel.
Her talent is music theatre/singing, and her platform will be Family Matters.
Her goal is to open a group home for at risk young women after earning her degree in child psychology.
Her hobbies are dance, music theatre, academic decathalon, stage, hair and makeup technician, cooking and baking, travel and learning about world culture.
Her sport is ballet.
She traveled to Costa Rica in December 2013 with the Girl Scouts and Outward Bound. While there, she worked to preserve a sea turtle habitat. She had the lead role of “Erma” in the play Anything Goes by Cole Porter. A little known fact about Sophie is that she makes a mean loaf of French bread.
Kinlea is the daughter of Tim Hancock and Misty Hancock. Her siblings are Daman, Kamaira, Klayton and Kelsea.
Her talent is Zumba dance and her platform will be Emergency Comfort.
Her career goals are to be a welder and phlebotomist.
Her hobbies are archery, softball, refinishing furniture and camping.
Her sport is softball.
Kinlea is shy until she gets to know you, then watch out! She likes watching movies and playing games. She loves a challenge.
Emily is the daughter of Jeffrey Eavenson and Kimberly Eavenson. She has a sister and a brother, Amber and Gregory.
Her talent is singing, and her platform will be Fighting Childhood Hunger.
Her career goal is to become a medical doctor.
Other Facts: Her hobbies are playing guitar, singing, snowboarding, wake boarding, long boarding, swimming, camping, hiking, fishing, hanging out with friends and family, traveling, shopping and shooting. Her sports are cheer, softball, swim team, basketball and soccer.
Emily knows how to shoot a revolver and an automatic pistol, and is a good shot. She loves to vacation to the Gulf shores. She is a member of the Holbrook High School Student Council and Key Club. She is a certified lifeguard, and is also certified in CPR, AED and first aid.
McKenna is the daughter of Kenny Westover and Jennifer Westover. Her siblings are Austin, Kaden, TJ and Rylan. Her talent is dance-clogging, and her platform will be Asthma Awareness.
Her career goal is to become a photographer. Her hobbies include horseback riding, camping, hiking, hunting and 4-H. Her sports are Zumba and volleyball. McKenna has won Grand Champion Carcass at the 4-H Pig Show.
Victoria is the daughter of Glenn White and Wendi White. Her siblings are Stuart, Brittany and Amber.
Her talent is dancing, and her platform will be the Importance of Reading.
Her hobbies include baking, hiking, swimming, camping, sledding, snowball fights and playing the clarinet. Her sports are basketball, volleyball and track.
Victoria is currently restoring a 1963 Dodge Dart.
