Two prisoners found guilty in the assault of a female corrections officer at the Kaibab Unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex in Winslow were recently sentenced in Navajo County Superior Court by Judge Robert Higgins.
Salvador Reyes, 27, and Guillermo Caughlan, 25, both pleaded guilty to dangerous assault by a prisoner. Each was sentenced to 10 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC) in addition to the sentences they were already serving. Caughlan was serving time for armed robbery and drug offenses committed in 2007, and was scheduled for release in 2016. Reyes has been incarcerated since 2012 for drug offenses and theft, and was scheduled for release in November.
According to DOC officials, in July 2013 the two men attacked the officer from behind as inmates at the Kaibab Unit were being transported to go to the dining hall. The officer suffered a broken nose and a broken cheekbone in the attack.
