The Route 66 Festival slated Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8 and 9, in Holbrook will bring together the two things that residents hold most dear: people and cars. To celebrate the city’s history as a stop along Route 66, the Gearheads Car Club will be lining Hopi Drive in front of West End Park with classic cars like the ones that cruised the route back when it was the only way to go.
The club will also be taking the lead in the Makin’ A Lap car cruise that will leave from West End Park on Hopi Drive at 5 p.m. on Friday, head north on Navajo Blvd., cruise over to Hunt Park, take the turn around, then head back out to Navajo Blvd., up the hill then back to West End Park. Every resident and visitor, no matter what you drive, is encouraged to take part and make this the longest lap train the city has ever seen. Come join in the fun of a trip down memory lane.
After the cruise the Gearheads will be entertaining everyone with a burnout contest set for 6 p.m., with Navajo tacos available at the park as a fundraiser for the Holbrook Youth Basketball League.
The fun with cars won’t end at the park as The Roxy Theater will be showing a free viewing of the Disney movie Cars starting at 7:30 p.m. Bring the entire family and enjoy an evening of fun.
