Hugh Barton Jr., 79, lifetime resident of Holbrook, passed away on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, surrounded by his children. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Heward House, 108 Crestview Road in Holbrook. All who knew and loved our dad are welcome to attend.
He was born on July 12, 1935, in Holbrook to Hugh and Ruth (Brandley) Barton. Hugh grew up in Holbrook, attending Holbrook High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He was a Korean War Veteran.
Hugh also attended the University of Arizona before returning to Holbrook to own and operate several businesses throughout his lifetime. He loved petrified wood, and spent most of his life crafting rock products that he sold at national parks and businesses throughout the Southwest.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Hugh Barton of Florence; three daughters, Stephanie Lynne Espitia of Florence, and Leigh Cristin Saiz and Petra Elizabeth Gonzales, both of Peoria; two sisters, Bonnie Constance Gibson of Heber and Lauraine May Sutherland of Show Low; and eight grandchildren.
