Area schools have a number of board positions that will be filled this election year.
In Winslow there are two four-year terms up for election, with candidates Josephine Montoya, Loren Sadler and Marilee Ervien vying for those positions.
In Joseph City there are two vacancies. Incumbents Jim Edwards and Linda Kor-Fisher are the only candidates.
In Snowflake there are two four-year vacancies, with the candidates listed as Amy Johnson, Beverlee Kay, Carol Owens, Charles Foote and Terry Stratton.
In Holbrook there is one position that will be vacant and as of yet, there are no candidates for that position.
Write-in candidates have until 5 p.m. today (Aug. 20) to file for uncontested races and until 5 p.m. on Sept. 25 for contested races, meaning more than one person filed the necessary forms to be a candidate for one position on an election ballot.
If there are no write-in candidates by the deadlines noted, the Navajo County Board of Supervisors may cancel the elections for both the Joseph City and Holbrook school districts. The two candidates would be appointed to fill the two positions on the Joseph City board and the county school superintendent would fill the vacancy on the Holbrook board at a later date.
