Photo by Tammy Gray Monsoon rains and warm temperatures have made conditions ideal for garden plants and pests alike, including grasshoppers such as this one, who quickly dash the hopes of gardeners preparing for the county fair by munching on prized vegetables. For the fruits, vegetables and other goods that survive the pests, the fair will be held Sept. 10-14. Entry forms for the fair are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29. Late entries will be accepted until Sept. 8, but a $1 late fee per entry will apply.
