Joseph City will host Duncan when the football season officially gets underway for the Wildcats on Friday, Aug. 29.
The Cats are coming off their first losing season in many, many years, having gone 4-5 last year, including a season ending loss in the first round of the Division VI playoffs to rival Mogollon. The Cats are just four years removed from their most recent state title and they hope to quickly regain the post-season identity that has followed the school in so many sports in recent years.
After hosting Duncan the Cats will travel to Glendale Prep, host Areta Prep then get a chance to avenge last year’s final game when they host Mogollon in week four of the season.
The Lady Wildcat volleyball team made the final four two years ago, but like the football, fell on some hard times last year, finishing with a 12-15 mark. This season they hope to bounce back and return to state tournament form.
The Wildcats will play against Holbrook, Hopi and Winslow in a scrimmage contest slated for 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, in Holbrook. Joseph City officially gets the season underway on Wednesday, Sept. 3, when Show Low’s Lady Cougars come to town.
