Coaches Sheri Brennan and Clare Elmer have seen a welcome growth in the Lady Wildcat volleyball program this year.  Joseph City started the season off with 28 players and three managers gearing up for the beginning of the season. Volunteer coach Jane Gardner will assist the coaches.

The Cats have seven returning varsity players from last season.   Seniors in the program include Krista Edwards, Taylor Elmer, Lindi Gardner, Katelyn Pugh, Shannon Mosier and Summer Brown.  Juniors are Chalet Baldwin, Sadie Tuckfield, and Ashli Thomas. Sophomore Amanda Baldwin rounds out the varsity squad.

Thomas and Baldwin will also see time on the junior varsity team, where they will be joined by juniors Tricia Bay-Morgan, Stephani DoBell, Alyssa Hutchens and Meghan Shaw.  Sophomores on the team are Shyann Flake, Mary Larsen, Kaylee Palmer and Cera Thompson. They will be joined by freshmen Tacye Baldwin and Haley Edwards.

Baldwin and Edwards will join classmates Scottie Ballew, Shylee Chandler, Katie Hutchens, Arianna Kissling, Kennedy Boss, DeAnna Penrod, Kassidy Richards and Sierra Wenger on the freshman team.

Joe Burt, Kiersten Mileham and Max Mosier are the team managers.

“This is the first time in a long while that we’ve seen these kind of numbers and as coaches, we’re very excited to get the season started,” said Coach Brennan.

Joseph City will be one of five teams playing scrimmage matches in Holbrook on Friday, Aug. 29.  The Cats will open the season on Tuesday, Sept. 2, with a home match against Show Low.
