F.L. Mitchell, a longtime resident of Holbrook, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014.A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at West Resthaven Mortuary/Cemetery, located at 6450 W. Northern Ave. in Glendale, followed by repast at 11 a.m.
He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Morton, Miss., to Alline Stingley and Randle Mitchell. He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Jack; a sister, Suzanne; his wife, Lodina; and a daughter, Jackie.
Upon honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he relocated to McNary. There he met his wife Lodina and soon settled in Holbrook. He and his wife raised seven children and were active in the community for the next 60 years.
F.L. Mitchell was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He is survived by six children, Audrey (Mark), Buddy (Donna), Perry (Gail), Denise (Travis), Gene and Edward. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Mary (H.W.) and Tina Mae; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-laws.
He was the sole owner/operator of Mitchell’s Radio and TV Repair. His business was known for timely service and quality work for more than 20 years in Navajo County, retiring in 1995.
F.L. Mitchell was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed summer visits with his grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman, fisherman, handyman and avid gardener.
His final years were spent in the care of his wife of 60 years and then his final days were spent in the care of his children. He met his maker having lived a fulfilling and productive life.
