Winslow Librarian Docia Blaylock reported to the city council Tuesday evening that the library is celebrating its 45th year at its current address, 420 W. Gilmore St. The library had been on Cherry Street by the old Women’s Club before moving to its current location. There are plans to move the facility to West Third Street, but that may be well in the future.
Blaylock also distributed papers promoting a Star Night Party at Homolovi State Park on Saturday, Sept. 13. People are invited to come spend an evening observing the night sky through astronomers’ telescopes.
City Manager Stephen Pauken and City Engineer Mark Woodson said that there will be a meeting with Federal Emergency Management Agency and Navajo County representatives on Wednesday, Sept. 10, to discuss a possible new flood plain map. While not official yet, the new map appears to remove some Winslow properties from the flood plain and could lower the need for flood insurance from some residents. This still must be approved and become official.
Pauken noted that there are still two vacancies on the Board of Adjustment, and one each on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Public Safety Retirement Board.
