By Greg Perkins The Lady Wildcats of Joseph City have moved their non-tournament match record to 3-1 early in the volleyball season with wins over St. Johns, 3-0, Superior, 3-1, and a hard fought 3-2 decision over Winslow. Their only loss thus far was 0-3 to Show Low to open the season. Joseph City’s win over Winslow last Wednesday night was a nail biter, going the distance with three of the five games decided by the necessary two points. Hosting the Lady Bulldogs, Joseph City took the first game of the match, 25-23. The Cats dropped game two 25-16, then outlasted Winslow in game three 27-25. Game four was also close, with Winslow eventually pulling it out 25-21. The fifth and final game went the distance, but the Cats held on to win 15-13. Everyone on the roster contributed to the win. Summer Brown led the team in digs with 15, Amanda Baldwin finished with 10 and Ashli Thomas added three. Krista Edwards played an all around solid match with 16 kills, two aces and 25 digs. Taylor Elmer added five kills, three blocks and four digs. Katelyn Pugh finished with three kills, one ace, one block and seven digs. Chalet Baldwin added two kills and seven aces, and played well defensively with 27 digs. Lindi Gardner added seven kills and 32 digs. Sadie Tuckfield had one kill and 28 digs. Shannon Mosier added five kills and 13 digs. This week the Wildcats were scheduled to host St. Michael on Tuesday, Mogollon on Friday, Sept. 19, and Hayden on Saturday, Sept. 20.
