Alice Crandell, wife of the late Senator Chester Crandell, who died on Aug. 4, has been appointed to serve the remainder of his term.
The Navajo County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to appoint Mrs. Crandell to the position after receiving a list of three individuals nominated to fill the seat from the Arizona Republican Party. Those nominated included Alice Crandell, Keith Baldwin and Paul Carruthers.
Senator Crandell’s term expires at the end of the year and is up for election. Sylvia Allen resigned from the board of supervisors in order to run for the position.
Mrs. Crandell thanked the board for the appointment and for their support of her husband during his term of service.
“I may not know what I’m getting myself into,” she joked, “but thank you.”
