Hosting more than 20 teams at their own invitational cross country meet held last Friday at Holbrook’s Hidden Cove Golf Course, the Roadrunners finished in ninth place as a squad. Chinle took the team crown with 54 points, followed by Tuba City in second with 73 and Hopi in third with 96.
With 16 teams earning points in the girls’ division Holbrook finished 10th in the standings. Northland Prep took the title with 49 points followed by Ganado with 73 and Window Rock with 75.
Nathaniel Henio of Window Rock won the boys’ varsity race with a time of 16:44. Adriano Joe of Piñon was second in 16:57 and Jalen Chee of Ganado was third in 17:02. One hundred twenty-four runners competed in the race.
Holbrook’s top runner was Marcel Young, who placed 19th with a time of 18:12. Ryan Clark was 42nd in 18:45; Marcos Clark, 43rd in 18:50; Ryan Bia, 82nd in 20:02; Todd Gishie, 108th in 21:30; and Kody Joe, 113th in 22:24.
In the junior varsity race, Holbrook was paced by Jaron Woody with a 34th place finish in a field of 136 runners. Jarek Joseph finished 75th; Jayden Johns, 91st; Jayson Puente, 101st; Kobe Black, 125th; and Chance Yazzie, 132nd.
One hundred sixteen runners competed in the girls’ varsity race, with Chamique Duboise of Window Rock taking first place, crossing the line with a time of 19:12. Daangoiina Haven of Ganado placed second and Maya Smith from Northland Prep finished third.
Jessica Todacheenie paced the Lady Roadrunners, finishing in 16th place with a time of 21:46. Miya Tom was 39th in 23:04; LaShaundra Tsosie, 67th in 24:24; Morgan Zahne, 85th in 25:52; Johanna Tsosie, 96th in 26:41; and Saun Rae Nez, 98th in 27:00.
Holbrook will host the cross country sectional meet on Friday, Oct. 31, also at Hidden Cove Golf Course. Teams placing in the top half of the entered teams, along with the top 25 individual finishers, will qualify for the state meet slated on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Phoenix.
