Holbrook entered the Division IV State Soccer Playoffs ranked seventh with a regular season mark of 8-4 and a first round home match against Snowflake. In their previous meeting with the Lobos, the Birds were victorious 2-1, but this time around 10th seeded Snowflake left for home with a 2-0 win.
Snowflake scored near the 10-minute mark in each half, then turned away several Holbrook attempts in the second half with some stellar goalie play. Holbrook had scoring opportunities on a penalty kick and with some close range shots late in the match, but was unable to find the goal bringing the season to a close.
With that victory the Lobos advanced in the bracket to face second seeded Payson on Saturday. Payson proved worthy of its high ranking, ending Snowflake’s season with a 3-1 win. Payson will join Blue Ridge, Desert Christian and Chino Valley in the semifinal round match-ups next weekend.
