The Bulldogs edged the Chinle Wildcats 64-62 in a game played Dec. 16 at Winslow. The win improved Winslow’s record to 5-3 for the season and dropped Chinle’s to 5-4.
The teams were tied at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Chinle had a 29-25 lead at the intermission. Winslow cut the margin to a single basket at 43-41 going into the final period. The Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 23-19 in that period, thanks mostly to 10 points from Trelonnie Sanders.
Sanders led all scorers with 21 points for the Bulldogs. Winslow had two more players in double figures as Akkeem Foster tallied 14 points and Dalvin Benally scored 10.
Jimiacan Ranger led Chinle with 14 points. Chritristen Blacksheep scored 13 for the Wildcats.
Three-point shooting and free throws were keys to the Winslow victory. The Bulldogs hit nine treys to four for the Wildcats, and were 13 of 17 at the charity stripe to 10 of 16 for Chinle. The Wildcats had 20 traditional two-point goals to just 12 for the Bulldogs.
