The Winslow Bulldogs swept games from Monument Valley, Blue Ridge and Page to close out last week’s action, pushing their record to 17-4.
The Bulldogs defeated the Monument Valley Mustangs 45-30 at Kayenta on Saturday.
The first quarter was played on even terms and ended with the score tied 10-10. The Bulldogs held a narrow 19-16 lead at the intermission. The Mustangs only scored two points in the third as Winslow increased its lead to 31-18. The Bulldogs maintained that margin through the final period.
Akkeem Foster was the only player in double figures for either team in the low scoring game with 16 points for Winslow. Trelonnie Sanders added 8 for the Bulldogs.
Kane Parrish led Monument Valley with 8 points. No other Mustang had more than five points and only eight scored at all.
The Mustangs had an advantage at the charity stripe, where they hit 10 of 20 free throws to four of 10 for Winslow. The Bulldogs, though, had three treys to none for the Mustangs and 16 two-point goals to just 10 for the Mustangs.
The Monument Valley junior varsity boys defeated Winslow 63-49.
The Bulldogs posted a 73-68 win over the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets 73-68 in a home game on Friday.
The game started with both teams scoring well and the first quarter ended with the score at 19-19. Blue Ridge had a 35-31 lead at the half, but Winslow scored 26 points in the third quarter to take a 57-49 lead going into the final period. Blue Ridge cut into that margin, but the Bulldogs prevailed for the 73-68 victory.
McKay Berges led all scorers with 26 points for Blue Ridge, half of them in the fourth quarter when he hit six of seven free throws and three field goals, one a three-pointer. Chris Williams added 24 for the Yellowjackets.
Foster led Winslow with 20 points, 11 of them in the third quarter when the Bulldogs took the lead. Sanders added 11, followed by Dalvin Benally with 8; Devon Flanagan and Tylon Yazzie, 7 each; and Rory Billie and Austyn Mattox, 6 each.
Winslow had an advantage in field goal shooting with 21 two-point goals to 19 for Blue Ridge and nine three-point goals to six for the Yellowjackets. Blue Ridge held the edge at the charity stripe, hitting 12 of 13 attempts, while Winslow hit four of five.
The Bulldogs downed the Page Sand Devils 67-59 at home on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter, but trailed 30-28 at the half. They regained the lead 46-44 in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth and final period.
Free throw shooting was a major key to the victory as the Bulldogs hit 17 of 27 charity tosses to just six of 12 for the Sand Devils. Winslow hit 10 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter, mostly with Page fouling intentionally as the Sand Devils tried to catch up in limited time.
Isaac Henry of Page led all scorers with 24 points, including five treys. Alan Larsen added 13 for the Sand Devils and Eddie White tallied 9.
Sanders paced Winslow with 20 points. Tylon Yazzie added 13 points; Foster, 8; and Billie, 7.
The junior varsity boys game was won by Page, 53-50.
