Hosting Mogollon last Tuesday the Joseph City Wildcats came from behind in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a sweep in the season series with the rival Mustangs with an 8-7 home field win.
After allowing a run to the Mustangs in the top of the first, the Cats moved in front for the first time with four runs in the home half of the first. They extended that lead to 5-1 in the third.
Mogollon started its comeback with three runs in the fourth, then tied the game with a single run in the fifth. The Mustangs went ahead by two when they scored twice in the top of the seventh. Joseph City put the rally caps on and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to win the game by one.
At the plate Bryndon Buckley had a big day, going 3 for 4, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh which tied the game at 7-7. Dylan Romero went 2 for 3. Kolton McCormick was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Sam Johnstun went 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Rance Haddox was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Jack Wilbanks was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
Buckley worked five innings, giving up five runs on four hits with 13 strikeouts. Troy Poudrier pitched two innings, giving up two runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Things didn’t go quite as well for the Wildcats on Thursday as they suffered a 16-3 setback on the road at St. Johns which moved their season overall mark to 5-6.
They will return from spring break with a home game against Northland Prep on Tuesday, March 31. The following Thursday they host Red Mesa in a doubleheader.
