The Holbrook Roadrunners shut out visiting Chinle Tuesday afternoon, 8-0, pushing their season mark to 8-4.
The Roadrunners were consistent through the first three frames, scoring single runs in each to build a 3-0 lead. They increased that margin to five with a pair of runs in the fourth, then closed out the scoring with a three-run sixth inning.
Holbrook scored eight runs on nine hits, made just one error and left nine on base.
The Roadrunners’ pitching limited the Wildcats to only three hits. Chinle made four errors and left five stranded.
At the plate for the Birds, Scottie Gishie went 1 for 2 with a double, an RBI and scored once. Carlos Quintana was 1 for 3, with an RBI and also scored once. Cade Maestas went 2 for 4, including a double, reached once on an error and scored three runs. Tristan Baldonado was 2 for 3. Trevor Barton was hit by a pitch and earned an RBI. Lanny Newton-Pender went 0 for 2, but walked twice, stole one base and collected an RBI. Alex Haussman went 1 for 3 with a double, walked and scored once. Logan Tsinijinnie was 2 for 3 with a double and scored once. Buddy Wagoner was hit by a pitch and scored a run.
Tsinijinnie worked six innings on the hill to earn the win. He faced 22 Wildcat batters and gave up no runs on just two hits with three walks and struck out six. Newton-Pender pitched one inning, facing only four batters. He struck out three and issued no walks.
After having the rest of spring break off, the Roadrunners will return to the diamond on Monday, March 30, with a road trip to Heber to face the Mogollon Mustangs. The following day they travel to Payson. On Friday, April 3, Holbrook will face the Cougars in Show Low.
