The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team defeated the Show Low Lady Cougars 7-6 at home last Wednesday. They then beat the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners 11-4 on Friday, also in Winslow. The victories improved Winslow’s record to 22-6. The Bulldogs should have favorable seeding for the state tournament.
In the Show Low game, the Bulldogs had to come from behind as they trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the third inning. They scored a run in the bottom of the third and two in each of the next three innings while holding Show Low scoreless to pick up the victory.
Richelyn Villanueva got the win, working all seven innings and giving up six runs on 11 hits. She was hurt by six errors that led to unearned runs. She walked two and struck out five.
Alicia O’Haco led the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits in four trips and had two RBIs. Hailie Branson, Taylor Holeva, Alyssa Smith and Villanueva were all 1 for 3, with Branson having a triple and an RBI, Villanueva, two RBIs, and Holeva, one RBI. Elizabeth Lozano was 1 for 4.
Cheyanne Benally got the win against Holbrook, working four innings and giving up four runs, only two of which were earned, on seven hits and two walks. Sherriese Beatty relieved and worked three scoreless innings, giving up only two walks.
Gabrielle Gonzales and Elizabeth Lozano were 2 for 3, with Lozano having a double. Branson, Holeva and Smith were 2 for 4, with Smith having a double and three RBIs, and Branson, a double and an RBI. Harliegh Scott was 1 for 3.
