One person died in an accident that occurred at 11:09 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, near the intersection of State Route 77 and Highway 180 in Holbrook. The vehicles involved were a white Ford truck pulling a fifth wheel camping trailer driven by Charles Jackson, 31, of Morgan Hill, Calif., and a silver Honda Pilot driven by Ronald Horst, 76, of Ocean View, Del. The passengers in the Pilot included Diana Tindall, 64, of Baltimore, Md., and Francis Wiley, 87, and Patricia Wiley, 74, both of Perry Hall, Md. The passenger in the truck was Billie Draper, 70, of Monterey, Calif.
According to the report, Jackson was traveling south on SR 77 when he observed the Pilot pulling onto the road after being parked on the right side of the road. Although Jackson applied his brakes, he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. He struck the car broadside on the driver’s side, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
Francis Tindall was seated in the rear driver’s side of the car when the collision occurred and was declared dead at the scene. The other three people in the Pilot were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
