Tom Rex Coochyumptewa, 71, of Winslow passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, surrounded by his family at the Haven of Lakeside in Lakeside. Private services will be held.
He was born March 15, 1944, to the late Lynn and Isabell (Tawawenka) Coochyumptewa in Second Mesa.
Tom served in the United States Navy before being medically discharged.
A very giving person, Tom was always helping his family and friends. He walked everywhere he went, and was always carrying and reading his favorite book, The Book of Mormon. He loved to dance and was a Gourd Dancer for many years. He loved children, and enjoying spending time with his nieces and nephews. Tom also loved to fish and spent most of his time in Winslow.
Survivors include his brothers, Paul (Elouise) Coochyumptewa of Polacca and John (Cree) Coochyumptewa of Second Mesa; his sisters, Mollie Uqualla of Second Mesa and Virgie (Chuck) Tortice of Whiteriver; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Linda Quavehma and Edith Mae Coochyumptewa; and a brother, Joseph Coochyumptewa.
Owens Livingston Mortuary of Show Low was in charge of the arrangements.
