Ricky Howard Martinez, 57, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at his home in Phoenix, surrounded by his loving family at his side. Rosary will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, with a Funeral Mass to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 212 E. Arizona St. in Holbrook. A reception will follow at the Family Center across the street from the church.
He was born June 4, 1958, in Holbrook and attended Holbrook Schools. He worked 30-plus years as GEO technical engineer with the Arizona Department of Transportation, Foree and Vann, and RAM Engineering.
Ricky, known to his hunting buddies as “The Foreman” and “R,” loved to join his friends and family for the annual deer hunt, and, of course, there were his famous macaronis he made for all the guys. He was an avid lover of his cars. He owned a ‘32 Roadster and his love, his black Monte Carlo. Everyone who knew him loved his stories and his contagious laugh. He had a heart of gold and didn’t hesitate to help anyone, no questions asked. Ricky and Roberta’s home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay when they were in Phoenix; they helped so many friends and family that were in need.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Roberta; his two daughters, Diana Marie (David) and Amanda Sally (Santiago); five grandchildren, Andres, Mia, Bella, Adrian and Eliana; his father, Gavin; two brothers, Gaven (Buster) and David (Debbie); and two sisters, Eileen Bryan and Marlene Pacheco.
He was preceded in death by a baby sister, Eileen; and his mother, Sally Gallegos Martinez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley.
