Snowflake’s Lady Lobos went 5-1-2 at the Monument Valley volleyball tournament over the weekend, picking up 2-0 wins over Shonto Prep, Piñon twice, Winslow and Page. They tied matches with Monument Valley and Sedona, with each team winning one game. Their only loss of the tournament was against unbeaten Division III Greenway, which bettered the Lobos in two straight games.
The Lobos dropped a regular season match at Cactus last Tuesday. It was close through the first two games, with the Lobos falling 25-22 in the first and 25-23 in the second. The Lady Cobras closed out the match by winning game 25-16. Cactus was last year’s Division III state runner-up and has since moved up to Division II, where it is currently ranked 10th in power points.
The Lobos entered this week ranked 12th in Division III power points with a 6-1 regular season mark.
After playing at Blue Ridge on Tuesday, Snowflake will host Show Low on Thursday, Oct. 1, then welcome 15th ranked Monument Valley on Saturday, Oct. 3. Like the Lobos, the Lady Mustangs have just one regular season loss. The Lobos defeated the Mustangs in the Snowflake tournament and battled them to a 1-1 tie in the Kayenta tournament last weekend. This sets up what should be a great match on Saturday between two teams that could meet up again in the Division III state tournament.
