The Winslow High School varsity volleyball team won four matches and lost nine in the month of September, according to MaxPreps. The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host the Page Lady Sand Devils on Thursday, Oct. 1, and the Window Rock Scouts on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Seniors on the Bulldogs’ varsity roster are Gabrielle Tsinijinni, McKenzie Alcott, Adrianna Singer and Whitley Bazan. They are joined by juniors Shannon Villarino, Megail White, Shayna Nelson and Jenabah Yazzie, sophomore Sirena Begaye and freshman Justine Butterfield. The team is coached by Rinell Heister and Liz McLaws.
The season started with a 3-1 loss to the Lady Falcons at Fountain Hills by scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-13. Then there was a 3-2 win over Holbrook in Winslow.
Next came a 2-0 loss to Show Low at a tournament in Payson by scores of 25-18 and 25-23. Also in that tournament came losses to Arizona Lutheran Academy by scores of 25-17 and 25-13 and to Northland Prep Academy by scores of 25-23 and 25-20.
A three-game winning streak followed the Payson tournament as the Bulldogs beat Hopi 3-0 and Central 3-2 in Winslow. The Hopi scores were not recorded, but in the Central match Winslow lost the first game 25-23, won the second 25-19 and the third 25-18, lost the fourth 25-23, but won the fifth and the match 15-7. A 3-1 win on the road at Mingus completed the winning streak. The Bulldogs won the first two games 25-19 and 25-18, lost the third 25-17, and won the fourth and the match 25-21.
The winning streak ended with a 2-0 loss to Snowflake at Winslow. The losses continued with a 3-0 to Northland Prep Academy at Winslow by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-8. Next was a 3-0 loss to Monument Valley at Kayenta by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-15, followed by a 2-0 loss to Snowflake at Snowflake by scores of 25-20 and 25-12.
The Bulldogs lost to Greyhills Academy in Winslow on Tuesday by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-22. Winslow won the junior varsity match, 25-20 and 25-23.
