Allan Bruce Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at his home in Bluewater, N.M. Services will be held on Nov. 21, at the Mount Taylor Ward Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with the viewing at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m.

He was born Aug. 24, 1938, to Stanley Harrison Smith Jr. and Lelia Ashcroft Smith.

Allan married Virgina Lee Spurlock on Aug. 30, 1958, and they had a large family of eight children together. They were later divorced. He married Nedra Gordan on March 9, 1978. He helped raise her four children and one daughter blessed their union. Allan lost his beloved Nedra on Sept. 16, 2000. He found his sweetheart Susan McNeill and they were married on Oct. 10, 2003.

He held various callings in the LDS church. He had been a councilor in the Elder’s Quorum, councilor in the Dilcon Branch Presidency, a Sunday school teacher, president of the young men’s group in his ward, councilor and secretary in the high priest group, and branch president of the Pueblo Pintado Branch. He was also involved in his family’s genealogy research.

Allan managed trading posts, became a cowboy, sold Fuller Brushes, worked in department stores, sold shoes, drilled wells, ran earth moving equipment, owned service stations, was a sales and service manager of a linen supply, superintendent of a construction firm, foreman for a sand processing company and finally became a professional truck driver, covering 48 states.

He had a great love for Dine’. The Navajo people were very near and dear to his heart. He was fluent in their language, and loved talking to them whenever and wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nedra Gordan Smith; his father, Stanley Harrison Smith Jr.; his mother, Lelia Ashcroft Smith; his brother, Ralph Marlin Smith; and his sweet sister, Marian Elizabeth Parker.

Survivors include his sweetheart, Susan McNeill Smith; his children, Anna, Marlin, Laura, Julie, Colleen, Tim, Mac, Steve, Deborah, Tom, Kirsteen, Lelia and Amanda; his 44 grandchildren; and his 45 great-grandchildren.
